How to Prepare for a Trademark Consultation

Prepare for a trademark consultation in Karachi: organise brand examples, business activity, dates, correspondence and questions about scope and fees.

Brand planning materials prepared for a trademark consultation

Mir & Khans · Published September 24, 2026

A productive trademark consultation starts with a clear picture of your business and the brand you want to discuss. You do not need to arrive with every legal question answered. A short, organised brief helps explain what you are using, what you are planning and where you need guidance.

Describe the business and the brand separately

Write a few sentences about the goods or services your business provides. Then identify the name, logo or other brand material involved in the enquiry. If there are several versions, label them clearly so it is easy to distinguish an existing version from one you are considering.

For example, a business may have a registered company name, a shop name and a logo used on its packaging. Listing each separately helps the adviser understand the question. Do not assume that a document relating to one automatically answers a question about the others.

Prepare a short history

Note whether the brand is already in use or is planned for a future launch. Record relevant dates as accurately as you can and mark estimates as estimates. If you hold application or registration references, list them alongside the documents you have available.

If an enquiry concerns correspondence from an authority or another party, preserve the original message and attachments. Mention any stated response date when arranging the consultation rather than leaving it buried in a long description.

Make a useful question list

  • What part of the brand or activity should the discussion focus on?
  • What further information is needed before work can be scoped?
  • Is the proposed work a consultation, a search, an application or help with an existing matter?
  • Which professional fees, official charges and later stages are included?
  • How will updates and additional queries be handled?

Keep the first enquiry brief

Use the website form to describe the matter and provide contact details. Do not upload confidential materials or identity documents through a general enquiry channel. Ask the firm how supporting material should be shared once it confirms the next step.

This is a preparation guide, not a formal filing checklist or an opinion on whether a particular mark can be registered. Read about trademark registration and the wider intellectual property practice, or request a consultation with Mir & Khans in Karachi.
